Our Coaches

Professional Approach to Coaching – All Abilities 

We are proud to be able to exclusively offer professional coaching of the highest calibre to develop, coordinate and coach all junior cricketers, rather than relying on parental volunteers.  Not only do we operate a strong seasonal coaching programme for all our cricketers, we also offer a full winter training program, additional holiday courses and 1:1s. 

Duncan Pauline – Director of Coaching

Duncan is one of the most experienced coaches of youth cricket in England.

Duncan played over 100 First Class and List A matches over his career for Surrey CCC.

Duncan is also the most successful all-rounder in the history of top flight Surrey Club Cricket.

He has been involved with the club for 28 years and coaching cricket for more than 40 yrs

Sohail Ahmed – Lead Coach

Sohail has represented Pakistan A, Lahore and Esher CC.  He has played over 100 First Class and List A matches.  While playing at Esher he was the highest scoring batsmen in the Surrey Championship.C

Sohail has played / coached cricket at Esher CC for the last 14 years. He has great knowledge of the game and is dedicated to assisting Esher’s young cricketers improve their cricket.

Khurram Irshad – Lead Coach & Fast Bowling Coach

Khurram Irshad, coaches our junior section and is a fast bowling coach.

He has played 1^st Class cricket in Pakistan, represented Pakistan “A” and was part of their elite academy. He opens the bowling for our 1st XI.

Nic Smit

We welcome to the coaching team for 2022, top order batsmen and off spin bowler Nic Smit, who comes with current 1^st class Provincial South African experience.  Nic will also be playing for our 1st XI in the Surrey Premiership for the 2022 season.

Nic has played and captained First Class and List A for North West Dragons. He has 8 years of coaching experience and is a CSA level 2 coach.

Justin Broad. 

Justin Broad joined Esher CC in the 2021 season. Justin is a highly talented young cricketer, bats in the top order and bowls fast. His home city is Cape Town in South Africa, where he has played representive cricket for Western Provence. Apart from playing in Esher’s 1^st XI, Justin also plays for Surrey County Cricket Club’s 2^nd XI, while qualifying to play for England.

Justin will be coaching sessions when not required to represent Surrey CCC. With the level of cricket Justin has already achieved, he will make a huge contribution to the YC section.

Lee Cothill

We welcome to the coaching team for 2023, pace bowler and batsmen Lee Cothill, who comes with 1^st class Provincial South African experience. Lee was involved in the Lions / Strikers professional cricket  for 5 years and played 8+ years of premier league cricket in SA.  He has 12 years of coaching experience, including 8 years coaching school 1st XI cricket in South Africa. He is a level 3 coach.

Lee is an enthusiastic, encouraging and inspiring coach who tries to get the best out of every player he interacts with. Passionate about leadership, and developing, not only good cricketers, but good people.

Senior Academy – Assistant Coaches

We encourage our Senior Academy to get involved in Coaching our Young Cricketers and also to obtain coaching qualifications.

Most of our Senior Academy have been at the club from a young age and have progressed through our age groups.They are also current ECB Cup Champions!

They bring an abundance of junior and youth cricket experience, energy and enthusiasm!  They help with age group coaching and on the various camps and courses that we run.
