Coaching Aims

Our aims for the U5-U7 age group are to produce a 15-week coaching programme so that each young cricketer learns how to play the game, in a safe and enjoyable environment.

All cricket is soft ball, therefore, no need for any protective equipment. The club can supply everything, but we do recommend young cricketers have their own bats, good for practicing at home. During the programme young cricketers will learn, batting basics, the main batting shots, different styles of bowling, the various fielding techniques and match awareness.

So that the young cricketers can gain the most from each session, we keep our coach: cricketer ratios as low as possible. All our coaches are fully ECB qualified with up-to-date child safety requirements and all have gained first aid certificates.  At young age groups, the coaches will often try to involve parents in the session, for example feeding balls for the children to master their techniques.

Learning the correct cricket techniques from an early age really helps, when the cricketer gets older and starts to play matches in the Surrey Leagues

We are confident that the above structure will greatly support the continued development of junior cricket at Esher and provide all with lots of enjoyable cricket.

Looking forward to a busy and fun season ahead!

Kit needed

Although, the club can supply everything, owning and bringing along a bat is useful, it also aids practicing at home

For the under 7’s as they start to play external matches, we play in the Esher CC ‘blue’ playing shirt and any navy trousers/shorts. All can be purchased via the  Esher Kit Shop . Please no names on the back,  numbers  and initials on the front are acceptable.
